About

Apart from the treatment of a series of iconic art works such as the Girl with the Pearl Earring and The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp, questions about the materiality and artists’ painting techniques have been Jørgen Wadum’s primary research areas. His thesis (1987) on the genesis of the Winter Room at Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen, was revealing the complex nature of the room and its many Flemish paintings.[i] From 2004 he participated in the SMK Rembrandt-research 2004-2006, a project resulting in a re-attribution of two of the master’s works, the Sketch for The Knight with the Falcon and a Study of an Old Man in Profile. In 2009 at the University of Amsterdam he defended his dissertation Technical art history: painters’ supports and studio practices of Rembrandt, Dou and Vermeer.
